Change in your rent? Make sure you update your Universal Credit online account

If you are on Universal Credit (UC) please make sure you update your online account with details of your new rent charges.

You should have received a letter from ateb (earlier this year) confirming your new rent charges from Monday 3rd April 2023. Please keep this letter safe as you will need to tell the DWP the new rent amount to avoid underpaying and building up arrears.

How to update your UC account with your new rent amount.

Please note this video is from 2022 but the information (apart from the dates) is still accurate.

Check your UC on-line journal regularly as you should receive a ‘to-do’ to confirm your rent charges. It’s usually on or just after the 3rd April.

You will need to enter your rent amount, separately from your service charges amount. For example, in this letter the amount you would enter for rent would be £80.93p and the amount for service charge would be £5.38p (you will need to add up all your service charges and enter as a single amount).

Follow the steps on your UC account and click submit.

If you have any concerns or would like some help, please get in touch with our team, [email protected] or call ateb on 0800 854 568.
