Energy prices are going to rise on the 1st of April BUT there is something you can do to help.
Take gas and electricity meter readings on or as close to Thursday 31st March as possible. It doesn’t matter what type of meter you have, smart or otherwise – still do this. Ideally a photo of both meters showing the readings and meter serial number.
Submit the meter reading to your energy supplier right away (online is easier). If for whatever reason you can’t submit that day (Thursday 31st March) you have photos as evidence of meter readings and the date they were taken.
Why does everyone need to do this?
On Friday 1st April 2022, the new OFGEM energy price cap comes into force. This means much higher energy rates for millions of people. But if you can give your energy company an accurate meter reading on the 31st March you should be charged at the lower price (before the CAP rises) for every bit of energy you used BEFORE it goes up in price. This is much better and accurate than relying on an estimate.
