Hubberston & Hakin Wellbeing Event: Building Connections and Support

ateb, in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council, recently hosted a Wellbeing Event in the Hubberston & Hakin community. Designed to connect residents with a range of support agencies, the event offered guidance on everything from health and energy-saving tips to career advice—all aimed at helping people face Cost of Living challenges.

The event featured lively, hands-on sessions, including woodcraft workshops for all ages hosted by Silbers CiC and cooking classes led by Kate Smith, Community Nutrition Practitioner with Public Health Wales. Everyone was invited to get creative with Halloween-themed petrifying pizzas and jack-o-lantern peppers, gaining practical cooking skills while comparing prices and exploring healthier food options.

Ailinor Evans, atebs Engage Coordinator said, “It was wonderful to see families and individuals getting involved with cooking and exploring new ways to make healthy choices together. Events like this offer a great way to make learning about nutrition practical and fun, while also connecting people with resources they can use every day.”

A mix of health, wellness, and community agencies were present. Pembrokeshire Community Hub offered links to further services, Future Works provided career support, and ateb’s own digital support department was on hand to help participants get more connected online. The PCSO, and Hywel Dda Community Outreach offered health and safety resources, while Pathway Counselling and PACTO Community Transport shared vital mental health and transport information for those in need.

Feedback from the event showed that participants valued both the information and the community spirit. Attendees said they left inspired to make lifestyle changes, from healthier food choices to recycling, and even taking up woodworking as a hobby. Conversations with ateb’s housing team provided a relaxed space to discuss tenancy questions, and several attendees expressed interest in joining upcoming ateb initiatives like the Customer Forum and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Group events.

Raffle Winners and Event Highlights

The day concluded with a raffle, with prizes going to lucky winners from Hakin and Thornton. There were special cookery books given as prizes for three young participants who took part in the Halloween Fancy Dress competition.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We’re looking forward to hosting more community-focused events and supporting residents as we work together to build stronger, more connected environments for the people and communities of West Wales.
