National Apprenticeship Week | Sean.

Meet Sean, he started as an apprentice back in 2019 and now works full-time as part of the Maintenance Team.

Sean’s story is a little different as he changed from a career in retail at a later stage in his life.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I always enjoyed working with tools and being hands on so when my wife spotted the apprenticeship opportunity with ateb and gave me a little encouragement I decided to go for it”.

“It was a culture shock, becoming an apprentice at the age of 30, I’m not going to lie. I guess it was down to the fact when I was younger I found myself in a job, and it was easy to stay in that job earning reasonable money. But it never made me truly happy”.

“It’s funny because It didn’t feel it was daunting at the time, it just felt right (changing roles). It was the right time to do it and I don’t look back with any regrets. In fact, I wish I have done it years before”.

Sean is now a full-time member of the Maintenance Team and has a trade (carpentry and multi-trade) – something he aspired to when we first spoke to him as part of This is Housing in 2021.

“I would absolutely recommend an apprenticeship to anyone thinking of doing it, even at a later stage of life. So long as you have the right attitude and are willing to listen and learn you will do great.”

And by pure luck we actually have an Apprenticeship Vacancy this week! Check it out.

Thanks Sean and well done!
